Has anybody come across the need of tracking changes to classification characteristics in the standard DIR change log?
Standard functionality does not add change records to the DIR log when classification characteristics are changed. Since we operate in an regulated environment, we need to have a complete audit trail for any changes made to the DIR.
Does anybody have an idea how to best go about this? Is there a BADI that would be a good starting point? Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Friedrich
Hi Friedrich,
you can get the change records for changes on characteristics in SAP DMS very easily. Just push the button -> classification and then use -> Environment -> change documents. All changes on characteristic values are tracked there.
Please reard points if answer is useful.

Daniel,
Thank you for your response that has pointed me in the right direction.
Following your instructions, I can see the menu under environment and the function change documents, but it is grayed out.
Are there any specific configuration settings in DM required to activate change documents for characteristics stored in the DIR or is this something we need to turn on in Classification?
We are on release 4.6C and do not use release levels or ECM in DM.
Points???? of course only the maximum would be rewarded, if I get this one out of the way without development.
Friedrich
Hi Friedrich,
you probably need to activate change documents in customizing: ->SPRO -> Cross application components -> Classification system -> classes -> maintain object types and class types -> select 'draw' -> class types -> select the class type - probably 017 -> select 'objects' on the left -> and finaly check 'change docs for Class.
You can find additional infromation in the SAP help portal at <a href="http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_02/helpdata/en/24/4764e4416711d189ec0000e81ddfac/frameset.htm">Classification Change documents</a>
Best regards,
Daniel
