Hi
We are in the process of upgrading our SAP system from BW 3.1 to the latest and greatest NW2004s/ BW 7.0
Among other thing this will include adding a JAVA instance.
Anyone else been through this process?
Any thoughts or experiences would be welcome.
Thanks
Matthew Milne
Hi Matt,
We went from BW 3.5 to 7.0 without major issues. There were a couple of notes related to including highter SP levels with the upgrade. We only went with SP10 and Patched the system later on.
The BI JAVA we included in our Global Enterprise Potal instance.

You can upgrade to BI 7.0 and still use the old tools and access methods you had before, Java is only then necessary if you plan to implement new features. You even can use the old tools to create new queries, you don't need to migrate them all.
We decided (as of now) to NOT use BI-Java parts, it's just too cumbersome to set up and it's almost impossible to proactively monitor Java instances.
