CTI Integration - Open Contact

Hi there dear experts!

I am a software developer at a small German based company with focus on CTI.
At hand, I have a request to do the usual when it comes to computer telephony integration, which is opening a contact in SAP Business One after matching incoming phone number against an address book.

Having done so with many different ERP/CRM systems before, I am now again starting at zero and wonder where to go from here. Which API's are avialable/recommanded for such an undertaking? What I want to ask for are basically keywords I can use to fire up Google and get me started.
