Hi,
what is the importance of BOM Explosion number . can any one give me in detail in which context it is used.
second is valuation type is getting populated in components of a production order. from where this valuation type is flowing to the child components.
thanks in advance

HI Madan,
For your second question:
Valuation type
Uniquely identifies stocks of a material that are subject to split valuation.
Examples
If a material is valuated by origin (for example, valuation category H), you can define the possible countries of origin as valuation types.
Dependencies
The valuation category (this field is there in Costing 2 view) defines the valuation types allowed for a material
I hope this will help you.

Hi Madan,
where you seeing valuation type in production order, if it is developed one, then it is comming from material master, if you have maintained valuation type
Thanks

Hi madan,
I dont think there is any way of valuation type flowing into the production order for the child components. It can only flow if it is maintained in the Bom. But there is no such facility in BoM. The only way it can appear is possibly if you enter manually. kindly recheck.
Regarding BoM Explosion number in sale order, like nanda has suggested you could create a bom explosion number and attach the same in the sale order at the item level. Thereby when you run a MRP for that sale order and sale order line item, the system will consider the BoM Explosion number for material planning with respect to the Fixed Key date.

Hi Kiki,
Pertaining to attaching the BOM explosion number in Sales Order at item level, I read from SAP Library under the section of BOM Explosion Number (Fixed Key Date), it mentions the following:
"The system can automatically specify the BOM explosion number when entering planned independent requirements or customer independent requirements or when entering the sales order"
I need advice on the 2 questions below:
1. Is it the always the case that we have to MANUALLY attach the BOM explosion number to a sales order item?
2. As per stated in the quoted paragraph above, can we have the system to automatically attach the corresponding BOM explosion number to a sales order item? If this is possible, how can it be done?

Hi Nanda,
thank for ur reply. what implecations it has when we are running sales order based MRP.

Hi,
By means of Bom explosion number we can define a common explosion date for all BOM levels.
The system explodes the BOM that is valid on this date.
For multi level BOM lareger time intervals may exist between the explosion dates of individual assemblies. If the BOM's have changed mean time a situation may exist where by an assembly that is used repeatedly is produced with a different BOM structure.
Therefore the BOM should always be exploded with the same date.

You need to enter fixed key date, plant material and the status whether active or inactive.
You can enter the BOM Explosion No in planned order or when creating PIR.
