SAP Menu bar

Hi All

In sap transaction menu bar if you drop down "SYSTEM" you will find user profile and under the user profile there is one called HOLD DATA.Can some body explain the <b>function</b> and <b>usage</b> of this hold and suppose if you hold the data then how will you release it.Please elaborate in easy steps.Thanks
