Can We Add Some More Fileds To the Imported IDOC ??

If I Imported IDOC to IR. But I Want to Add Some More Fields To IDOC.

Then Can I Go For this Process ??? Is This is Correct ???

Please Correct Me If Iam Going Wrong

1) Open the Imported IDOC in IR

2) Export it as XSD File in to your Local Machine

3) Add Necessary Fields & Save it

4) Come to IR And Import it into external definition

Is this is the Correct way of Doing ???

If Not What is the Problem in Doing This ??
