Use of device configurations - update version of mobile component

Hello,

We changed coded some changes in standard XMAM30. The name of this mobile component is XMAM30_LAPTOP_SR3 (type is application) with version 3.0003.

This was added to a device configuration DC_MAM and assigned to a hierarchy. The users synced and got everything on their device.

Now we want to give them version 3.0004 of XMAM30_LAPTOP_SR3 (which we packaged). When I want to remove version 3.0003 from DC_MAM and add version 3.0004 (also type application) it tells me that the device configuration cannot be changed anymore because of the installation sequence

The only solution I found was to copy DC_MAM to DC_MAM_1, update DC_MAM1 with version 3.0004, the remove DC_MAM from the hierarchy and add DC_MAM1.

Is this the way to go???

Hi Jeroen,

It is not possible to modify a Device configuration which is having mobilecomponent assigned to it with sequence numbers.

In order to modify a such type deviceconfiguartion, you need to unassign this Devconf from the hierarchy group then modify this DC and assign it to HG again.

Hello,

I create a device configuration and add mobile components to which I assign a sequence.

I assign this device configuration to the hierarchy and the users then synchronize.

Then I followed your suggestion and deassigned the device configuration from the hierarchy. I cannot imagine that I have to search in device maintenance where the device configuration is used and delete it for every individual device...

This is not working, when I deassign the device configuration from the hierarchy I have the same error because it is still assigned to a user...

I also cannot find any information on help.sap.com about update of mobile components in a device configuration. ..

Hi Jeroen,

Can you please tell me how you assign this IS to a user.

For modifying it, you need to unassign it from all those places where it is assigned.

You cann;t modify an Installation sequence if it used by a HG(user) or Device.

I tried this but I get the same error:

com.sap.ip.mi.admin.core.ApplicationException: Installation sequence is assigned to a device and cannot be changed.

I have the same problem where I want to add patch 1 for SP12 (mobile client). I cannot add this in the device configuration. Should I create a new device configuration for the patch only and add this also ?

Hi Jeroen,

Yes you can create a new DeviceConfiguration for patch and assign it to the HG/Device.

This will solve your problem.

If you wanna follow the previous approach then you need to unassign the DeviceConfiguration from the HG/Device and modify it with new set of application and then re-assign to HG/Device.
