Hi Gurus,
I have seen many threads explaing the Migration in 7.0 from 3.x. I have couple of questions.
1) I activated PUR_C01 (Purchasing Cube), DSO, Transfer and update rules in 3.x version. Now i want to migrate
2) I replicated my Datasource
created transformation between my datasource and DSO
Migrate Datasource
Create DTP and Infopackage
My question is
in 3.x between my Datasource and ODS i have transfer rules, Inforsource and update rules.
1) I can right click on my datasource and create Transformation. Now when i create such transformation i am manually connecting my DS and DSO. And i will have to make sure if there are any routines in my Transfer rules or Update rules and i have to replicate them in my transformations. Am i right
2) I can right click on my transfer structure and create transformation.
3) i can right click on my update rules and create transformation.
whats the difference in all the above three ?? Is it the infosource factor ?
Thanks
Surya
Thanks for your early reply voodi
I am little bit confused and am not able to make difference between creating transformation from datasource, transfer rules and update rules. We have options everywhere.
1) I have routinues in update rules and not at transfer rules. Can you please list out the steps for migration without using Infosource.
2) if i right click my datasource and create transformation then system proposed rules which connect my DS and DSO. Now if i have routinues in update rules wont the system transform the rules ?
3) If it doesnt then in order to copy routinues from update rules or transfer rules to new transformation do i have to do additional steps (right click on update rules/transfer rules and create transformations)
would be a great help if you can actually give me the steps ?
thanks in advance

Without using infosource, you need to redo ur routines in ur transformations. Inorder to retain ur routines, you have to migrate the update rules - ofcourse which have the source as infosource. So if you want to retain the routines, you have to use infoosurce or recreate them fresh in the direct transormations between DS and ODS
2) if i right click my datasource and create transformation then system proposed rules which connect my DS and DSO. Now if i have routinues in update rules wont the system transform the rules ?
NO - see the answer above.
3) If it doesnt then in order to copy routinues from update rules or transfer rules to new transformation do i have to do additional steps (right click on update rules/transfer rules and create transformations)
No other additional steps required. But for ease of use, start migrating from top to bottom. meaning start with update rules, transfer rules (infosource will be forced to migrate to 7.0, just rename the infosource - with a Z naming convention) and at last the datasource.
Thanks Voodi for the answers
1) If i do not have routinues in any of my update or transfer rules then i can right click on my datasource and then manually create transformations. since i do not have routinues this process can be faster.
2) If i have update rules / transfer rules then the method you suggested is
right click update rules-----create transformations
this will create new infosource
then right click transfer rules -
create transformations
once the above process is done then right click datasource and migrate.
so in this option you have infosource and two sets of transformation rules.
does this make sense
thanks a lot

I havent seen any considerable time savings creating new transformations instead of creating a new one. When you create new transformation, still you would need to manually map the fields between DS and ODS. I woudl suggest just migrate tge dataflow just the way it is - with infosource - thats much faster.
2) If i have update rules / transfer rules then the method you suggested is
right click update rules-----create transformations

PERFECT

Yes. But if you migrate ur existing transfer/update rules to transformations the routines you have will be inherted from the previous ones.
2) I can right click on my transfer structure and create transformation.
right click on transfer rules - Additional functions - create transformations
3) i can right click on my update rules and create transformation.
right click on Update rules - Additional functions - create transformations

I dont get ur question. You are just migrating the 3.x objects to 7.0. Infosource is mandatory as of 7.0, but if you still decide to have it, you would need to have a additional transformation between DS and infosource.. and a transformation between infosource and ODS.
