XL Reporter - Error Preparing XLR User

Former Member

Trying once more to install XL Reporter to one of our clients;

on every trial to install XLR I'm faced with new problems I never had before ...

... I grow more and more tired of it ...

OK, then:

I was logged in to Windows with admin-rights and to SAP as manager.

Our clients SAP version is SAP2005A PL23, the XLR version is 6.80.01.35.

The authorization process to login to the sql-server is on Windows level.

There is no problem to access the database this way using the sql-server

manager.

During the execution of the Install Shield Wizard I got the following

message:

"Error Preparing XLRUser;

<<Db Util Execution Error>>

Source: MS OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

Message: invalid authorization specification

Script: <a long path>\createXLRUser.sql(0)"

By the way: I had a look at the sql-code in this script and tried to

execute it while being logged in to the database; the error message

from sql-server was: "can't change owner of master database"

Thanks in advance,

Frank Romeni

You need an SA user in sql server in order to install SAP B1 and/or XL reporter. XL reporter doesn't support windows authentication for sql server.

Hi William,

thank you very much for this clear answer!

I'll try it this way at our customers server, come back and "pay" your reward points.

Well by default there are 2 major things to look at when dealing with B1 / XLR on the MS SQL level.

1. SA user login for the required tasks (so that means check the password so its correct etc. You can do this by creating an user dsn ODBC to the B1 database and use the SA usename and password, then test the connection to make sure it connects corectly)

2. MS SQL is in mixed mode auth.

Most MIS / IT support people on the client's side would balk at the idea of having the SA username in there but so far its the only thing that makes XLR work

Although the mixed mode is not currently recommended by hardcored DB admins, but the thing is that mixed mode is requiered not only by XL Reported but by SAP business one itself. So mixed mode is requiered, just create a good sa password.

Sad, but true. The mixed mode auth is a must.

As for the SA password, go with the new MS SQL 2005 setups and put in alpha, numerics and symbols. Should be secure enough in a normal office environment (imo)
