JRE and ITS

Certain applets while invoking SAP GUI for HTML do NOT work unless Java browser plug-in (JRE) is installed on the workstation and SAP doesn't automatically ask and download JRE if that is missing on your workstation.

Is there a way SAP can automatically ask and download JRE if it is missing on your workstation while using SAP GUI for HTML?

Ravi.

Hi Ravi,

Your observation is correct.

When it comes to up-/download with webgui the SUN Java VM is required. Currently there's no mechanism to install it on demand inside webgui.

I think that's a task for the administrator who configures client desktop images.

It might also be possible to achieve this with logon scripts.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your response. We are using a content repository and we attach documents to G/L documents and I guess in the background it does do an upload. This functionality doesn't work when we go via portal invoking SAP GUI for HTML unless java browser plug-ins are installed on the workstation. The worst part is SAP doesn't come up with any error message or anything when you try to do the attachment. It just hangs. I believe the industry standard is that a message pops up saying "you don't have JRE on your machine. Do you want to install" and then it does the installation if "yes" is clicked.

Do you know if there is a nice way around this that SAP offers other than deploying JRE in thousands of users' workstations?

Thanks,

Ravi.

Hello Ravi,

could you please more specific? The only application I know in the SAP GUI for HTML that uses JAVA is the Download/Upload functionality.

Thanks and best regards,
