Hi,

KM mainly deals with Document access. What do you mean by Master Data in terms of KM.

Thanks

Something to add to the last post:

1. Part of the major concept is Global vs. Local metadata (system wide vs role based perhaps)

2. All documents should have some additional metadata other then standard (thats right the system already puts metadata on the files... time created, name of creator etc)

Main thing is to learn the ropes of metadata... or structuring unstructured data.

Feel free to ping me if you need any help

Hello Vijay,

the idea of KM is to convert unstructured information into accessible and structured knowledge. The term metadata describes additional data that is attached to information integrated into KM and that is then used to structure and access the information.

You have to define a metadata concept for your scenario which describes:

- What are the sources of information that you want to integrate into KM? (e.g. databases, web pages, files, etc.)

- What kind of information do you get from theses sources?

- What is the difference between these pieces of information?

- What do you want to do with the information?

- Who should be allowed to access the information and how?

- Which properties do you need to describe, define and categorize the information bits?

Based on this metadata concept you will then able to define the repositories, resource types and property metadata for your scenario.

For more general information about KM I recommend the documents in the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/webcontent/uuid/53599a47-0a01-0010-c98c-bc5c9b48ca41">KM General Concepts</a> section.
