Upgrading SAP IGS 7.00

We have SAP Netweaver 2004s we have plan to upgrading to SP12.

SAP Recommended SAP IGS 7.00 SP08, we're in SP07 (SIGS) but I would like to know how to upgrade it. Because I have tried sapcar -xvf igsexe_8-10003077.sar in the exe folder (sapmnt/instance/exe) and restarted SAP but nothing change.

Help will be rewarded.

Hi Thomas,

Please refer to the OSS note 737099 it address a similar problem and recommends that we kill the IGS processes. Text from the note is listed below:

IGS upgrade step fails

SAP Note Number: 737099

Symptom

You want to upgrade the IGS and the installer fails during the IGS step, because the IGS is still running and so SAPCAR is not able to extract the new IGS.

Other terms

IGS J2EE R3E 4.7 EXT2 upgrade patch sapcar

Reason and Prerequisites

The IGS is still running during the upgrade/patch installation

You are either patching a J2EE installation or upgrading to a R3E 4.7 EXT2 system.

Solution

Stop the IGS before running the upgrade. You can do this by killing the igswd (first), igspw, igsmux processes. Or (recommended) by using sapntkill -INT on Windows or, on Unix, executing the stopigs script which is located in the igs/bin directory (not available for IGS >= 7.00). As an alternative you can also use kill -INT on Unix to stop the IGS.

Hi Sajit,

eventually, I managed to upgrade IGS, I was compelled to compile (test) the component (RSRT) . Due to this upgrade, we had to run an other SGEN!

Hi Thomas,

Please refer the the start profile for your system to identify the IGS install path for your system. Normaly the IGS install path is not sys/exe. Please refer to the SAP note 896400 for details.

Thanks for your reply very helpful.

but the thing is my problem is not really solve as after stoping both instance (java,abap)I've tried extracted the files in the path /usr/sap/sys_id/DIR_INSTANCE/exe but I was unable to do that as some files (gfwchart.so, etc..) are still in use!?

the error message is : cannot open or remove a files containning a running program!!

so I'm in search for stopping this program to copy this files.
