Observation: what is the difference between these 2 named infosources relat

Hi,

I have notices that the InfoSource in the data flow on data target is 1_xxxxx_YYYY

why under the “Manage” of the same data target, under “Request” tab it comes up with a different name: 8ABCCDAE

I searched under the InfoSource tree 1_xxxxx_YYYY has a listing of Infopackges

I also searched under the InfoSource tree for 8ABCCDAE and it also has a different set of Infopackges

What is the difference between the 2 different infosources related to this data target?

I was expecting them to be the same?

So if in rsa3 I want to see what is really coming in from the source system, which of these infosources do I need to use?

Thanks

The datasources that begin with 8 are autogenerated.....this datasources are useful when you want transfer data from one infocube/ods to another....

Hi,

Does it mean if you want to see the data coming from R3, you will use the non system generated infosource(8xxxxx)? But in some cases, the infosource listed under Manage (Request tab) is the same as that in the data flow i.e. if you search under the infosource tree, you see the sam infosource shown under Manage. Why didn't the system generate the 8xxxxxx infosource then? Why does the system create one in some cases but non in other cases?

Thanks

Hi Amanda,

You're talking about two different things: the datasource and the infosource.

You can connect different datasources (connected to one different source systems) to one single infosource. Actually the term of "Infosource" is a set of Communication structure + TRule connected to a Datasource which itself is attached to a source system.

Therefore precisely, you can connect different datasources to one single communication structure.

The Datasource generated in BW (so called datamart because the data is extracted from the BW source system "Myself") have a techname 8x.

The ISource generated from BW Objects (cubes, ODS...) have also a name like 8x.

Your datatarget can be loaded with data coming from R/3 (external srcsys) as well as from BW itself (or from any other BW, the DSource will also be 8x). Both paths should be shown in the dataflow.

In the InfoSource tree (RSA12), you should see a datamart node (generated objects from BW); if you don't see them then menu / settings / display generated objects; you may still don't see it; then right click the top node ISource and select "insert lost nodes"...

When you want to datamart (e.g. load from one cube to another), you have to generate an "export datasource" from your source cube; by doing this a 8x ISource and a 8x DSource will be created by the system; replicate "MyBW" datasources and you'll see these objects under the datamart node in RSA12.

For ODS objects the system dos that automatically because ODS are usually used for staging and their delta (change log), is natively a BW datasource;

hope this clears your doubts...

Olivier.

Hi,

this means that your data target has been loaded with two datasets coming from two different datasources.

The 1_xxx looks like a COPA datasource in an R/3 system.

8a datasource is most like a datamart datasource (coming from BW; most likely an ODS or a cube).

In the manage screen you can see the source system as well.

To have a clear picture you can display the dataflow under this data target. You can also then figure out how the updates are performed by opening and analyzing the TRules/URules.

You can RSA3 these datasources in their correponding source systems.

hope this helps...

Olivier.

It is still a bit confusing because in the Manage tab, the data flow shows one data source while the Manage shows a different one.

Let's see what the others will say ....

Thanks
