Hi,
As we know proxies are nothing but adapterless communication. My first question is why do we need to use XI adapter.
Is it becuase it can directly interact with IE.
Second questions is , when should we use XI2.0 and XI3.0 message protocol in XI adpater. Somebody mentioned that if we use SAP Web As <6.40, we need to go for XI 2.0. But, we can't use proxies unless webas is >=6.40.
Please do correct me
why do we need to use XI adapter.
XI adapter is used for communication with the Integration Engine
Is it becuase it can directly interact with IE.
Yes. If u observe, other adapters also internally uses XI adapters.
when should we use XI2.0 and XI3.0 message protocol in XI adpater.

Hey,
Prateek has answered you first question ..
Now coming to the second question.
Question to u
Is XI Adapter only used for proxy communciation ?
NO.
The usage of XI Adapter varies. It is can also used in a B2B environment for commuication between different IS or with PCK.
Suppose if have to commuincate with a business partner who has XI 2.0 and your version is XI 3.0 then in that case receiver xi adapter message protocol will be XI 2.0.
