Is APO R/3?

Dear Experts,

Is SAP APO a R/3?

I know it is not a R/3 system but it has 3 layers (presentation, application and database). Then y can't v call it as a R/3 system. Even though it sounds as a basic question pls clarify my doubt.

Thanks.

Even though R/3 name came due to the 3-tier architecture (Presentation, Application, database), the product SAP R/3 is an ERP package. APO is also having 3 tier architecture. But is another product from SAP mainly into the “Advanced planning & Optimization functionality”. Some of the functionality APO supports is also exists in SAP R/3. But APO has more wide scope and capability. I suggest you read the FAQ on this forum to get some idea about APO.

      Suresh and Shibu,

Thanks for correcting me .. I was under the impression that it ( R ) stands for Release . I just read that 'R' stands for Real Time data processing .. Learned something new .. 😊

      Thanks
