Portal server connectivity with two instances of R/3

Hi All,

We have a customer who has two different production instances for R/3 (not only PRD but also Dev & Qual).

They want to deploy SAP Portals & ADS.

Do they need to deploy two different Portal landscapes similar to R/3 or can they have only one landscape for Portal, i.e., only one Dev, QA & PRD servers connecting to both these two R/3s?

Users will have to mapped to respective company R/3s so that they don't get to see data of anyone belonging to the other company. I guess this is possible through roles in Portal and SSO. They will be running ESS, MSS, some PS related iViews, some PLM related portal stuff, using the portal as GUI for BIW reports viewing etc.

Can some one give a clear answer on what are the advantages and disadvantages, what is recommended, what are the risk factors in both the approaches?

We would appreciate if we can get quick answers..

Thanks in advance.

Aditi
