EDI Converters

Hi

There are some EDI converters like ANSI X.12, EDIFACT, SWIFT etc. Could you please tell me what is the purpose of these converters ??

Kumar,

These converters convert their internal formats into XML from where XI can understand. Check this simple EDIFACT converter example:

Thanks for your reply! I am going throug your referred example. Before that I would like to clear one more doubt that arised after going through your answer. Could you please tell me in what way EDI adapters different from EDI converters?? It (EDI Adapter) will also do the same job right ! It will convert EDI messages into EDI-XML format. So in what way these two are different ??

Kumar,

They both do the same. But EDI adapters(from seeburger, iway etc) were approved by SAP. EDI adapters like seeburger once when you install they are embedded within xi for integration.

But with EDI converters we cannot because we dont have any adapters which were approved by SAP.

Hope you understand the difference.

SAP XI can read XML messages..hence to convert to XML messages we use converters.
