serial number

Hi gurus,

my requirement is when we do gr for some material i will take inside RTP( Returnable Transport Packaging) material also..i need to give serial numbers for these RTP material....Is that possible.?

Eg : Gas Cylinder.. I will have two matl code. One GAS one CYLINDER ( RTP)

So in PO i will mention GAS . While receipt i will get many cylinders filled with GAS. These cylinders have numbers on them. That numbers i need to capture so that when i send back to vendor i send the first received cylinders bcos penalty is applicable if that cylinder is kept more than 15 days..

Can anybody help please
