SAP Fiori search and Embedded search

Dear SAP Gurus,

I need to configure FIORI Factsheet Search in backend as well as frontend for one of the search model MATERIAL_H, but I am confused with the difference between Fiori Search configuration and Embedded search configuration. Please explain.

Abhishek Paritosh

Search connectors for factsheets are required to be configured only on the back end system. Why do you need to configure it on the front end?

Hi Saurabh,

Thank you for your response, I am sorry but I am new to this configuration. Could you please give me an idea as to what is basically a front end? I know back end would be the ABAP stack but I wonder if front end is just the fiori launchpad or something else? Could you please clarify.

Are you using a central hub architecture (with a stand-alone front-end gateway server) or an embedded architecture (ECC+gateway in a single system)? For factsheets to work the search connectors need to be created in only the back-end system which would be running on HANA DB.

Normally in a hub architecture the front-end system is where the Fiori UI components exist, i.e. Fiori launchpad.

Hi Saurabh,

I believe this is a Central hub architecture because there is a separate server installed for FIORI in our landscape. Also could you please guide me with a document which describes the fiori search configuration to be performed in the backend. I see there are many things involved before going for creating connectors like

1.Web dispatcher

2.Embedded search config 1976027 2.1 TREX/BWA or SAP HANA - Either of the option could be used, I saw SAP HANA is used in this case because the SAP HANA DB connection is already created DBCO tcode therefore no need of TREX because for this you will need to install TREX on a different machine and then you will have to connect this your ABAP.

3.Business functions

4.SAP_ESH_INITIAL_SETUP_000_CLIENT

5.SAP_ESH_INITIAL_SETUP_WRK_CLIENT

6.Creating Search Connectors(ESH_SEARCH/ESH_COCKPIT/ESH_MODELER/ESH_TEST_SEARCH) for Search Model, here you get to know about the Software Components like SAPAPPLH or Extension Component EAPPLH 7.Indexing Connectors

Above I was on using tasklist SAP_ESH_INITIAL_SETUP_000_CLIENT but when I tried to execute it in client 000 it says the program doesn't exists. Please suggest.

Oh sorry I was trying to put the program SAP_ESH_INITIAL_SETUP_000_CLIENT in SE38, it should have been done in STC01 since its a tasklist.

The tasklist completed with WARNINGS in the third Configuration phase. I hope it is not a matter of concern.

Can you see your required connectors in Active Status in transaction ESH_COCKPIT?

Hi Saurabh,

I believe I have successfully configured Fiori Search for model MATERIAL_H and many others, yes I can see it in the ESH_COCKPIT and also I can see search happening when using ESH_SEARCH tcode. Thanks for your cooperation. Let me know if you anything has to be added.

If the search connectors are active then you should be able to search for the factsheets using the search field on the Fiori launchpad. Of course you should have setup and configured a web dispatcher to forward /sap/es requests to the backend system and you should open the launchpad using the web dispatcher link for factsheets to work.
