Is it possible to remove the default data in an empty crosstab in Design Studio?

Hi all,

I'm using Design Studio 1.6 SP04 in BIP mode. I was wondering whether it's possible to remove the data that appears by default in a crosstab linked to an empty result set.

This default data doesn't make it clear to users that there is no data linked. Please note that I am NOT looking to hide or remove the crosstab itself if there's an empty result set, only to remove the default data that appears there.

Thanks,

Krishna

What's the business reason behind this? I am curious.

I'm creating a Portable Fragment bookmark, that includes a crosstab, to be viewed in an Online Composition application. Users with different security settings will be viewing the same bookmark in the same application. Some users won't be able to see any data at all because of their personal settings, and will see something similar to the picture above. Once the bookmark is in the Online Composition application, I only have access to the bookmark's data source, not to the individual components inside it (correct me if I'm wrong). So even if I find that the result set for this bookmark is empty, I wouldn't be able to hide the crosstab or do anything else with it as a result. That's why I'm trying to find a way to erase the default data, so it won't confuse people who don't have access to the data due to security reasons.

Hi Krishna,

Are you sure the "default data" is appearing due to the data source result set being empty? The default data in the screenshot you have provided usually only appears if a data source has not been assigned to the Crosstab. If a data source has been assigned but no data is returned then the user will see a message to that effect.

Regards,

Mustafa.

Interestingly, while my crosstab used to display the default data when no data was returned, it now just shows a message as you described. Not sure what was going on before, but thanks for your answer Mustafa.

Regards,

Krishna
