Hello,

I'm quite a newcomer in the area of SAP NetWeaver Portal. I want to use the KnowledgeManagement as a Document Management System where I can store documents and search for them with the help of TREX. Also the Collaboration-Part sounds very interesting to me.

Can anyone tell me how to get startet with KM? Are there any step-by-step tutorials? How to enter data into the system? I read something about taxonomie and indexing but I realy need help!

Thanks!

Sandy

Hi Sascha,

does TREX works with PLM DMS?

What is the difference to the CM Repository?

Sorry for asking such "beginner-questions" but its still quit difficult for me to understand this complex and powerful tool.

Best regards,

Sandy

Hi,

with the CM repository, you can store documents in file system or database.

To connect to another repository you need the fitting repository manager. So to connect to DMS you need the DMS repository manager.

I am not sure about all the details of the PLM DMS, as I never had the chance o try it out, but I hope searching works. That is one of the main reasons why to integrate a remote repository. Navigation and Searching.

Did I suggest to visit EP300 class already? Together with SAPEP you really get a good understanding on how the portal and KMC is working.

Hello,

Thanks Venkatramana and Sascha for your fast response.

I read a lot about the Portal during the last days but I have still another few questions:

- What exactly is the mySAP ERP DMS Connector for KM? Which additional features does it provide?

- Is there a possibility to automatically remember (or even raise up) the author of a document to review it after a validity date ran off? E.g. Mr. Smith is author of the document xyz.doc and every 2 years the document should be reviewed. Therefore the author should be remembered to do this.

Thanks a lot,

Sandy

Hi Sandra,

the DMS connector is used to integrate the PLM DMS into KM (a repository manager)

So that you can access documents stored in the PLM DMS directly from KM.

The second functionality is not available in the standard. But should be possible to develop. Subscription only sends notifications, when the the document is changed in some way. And if the Lifetime is not valid anymore the document is not visible for the enduser anymore, but no notification is send.

But I guess you can develop such a function, because the basics (notificator service, scheduler service, reports) are already there.
