Hi PS Gurus,

I'm working for my 1st Implementation Project in SAP PS for an Electrical Company, I need suggestion from PS Experts to Define the project hierarchy and I hope Your react quickly

Business Process:Electrical company whose work is to built the current pole in streets for lights.

Flow chart is:

Division(2) May be more that 2 divisions also possible

Sub Division(4) May be more than 4 also

Item Code(24) this is FG(Finished Good) different types sometimes more than 24.

Pine Pole,Double pole(3) SFG( Semi Finished)

Raw Materials( Around 26) they need separate elements for raw materials to track budget.

Then they will give the budgeting

After budgeting the Locations will be finalized and main issue is there will be more than 65,000 Locations and once they complete the work in particular location billing will be done.

As far as I know we cant create 65,000 WBS elements for milestone billing in a single Project because it effects the performance issue.

How can I define the project hierarchy is there any other way to maintain these may locations.

I need from help from you seniors

Thanks in Advance

Hi Hariteja,

As Ken wrote you should use Investment Management, so that you total project budget will be somewhere at the IM program position(s). You can also use a Subproject field to group different WBS across multiple projects, but that is more for the matrix type of reporting that can be based on any other User field also.

Also consider using additional data objects as part of the project structure: NW, NWA, NWAE, PM orders.

Use Investment Management to handle budgeting of this magnitude. Then break up the structure into many smaller projects. You can use custom fields to characterize the WBS elements for reporting. There's no need to include everything under one Project Definition.

Hi Ken Melching

Can I use one Main project(budgeting will be done to main Project) and some smaller projects with respective to main project after confirmation of activities in smaller projects is there any possibility to Link the budget tracking in main project

I mean What ever cost capture in smaller projects should be impact on main project. consumption of Budget will be from main project

Is it possible to do like this

Thanks in Advance
