It's hard to describe every options on a forum.

However, you can go here

https://service.sap.com/ha

SAP has a section on high availability. Lots of good info for you to read.

Hello Akhil,

High availability is a self explanatory term. It means that system should available at all the time. It is just not about clustering but a lot of things which together are termed as SPOFs (single point of failures). It may include power outage, disk crashing, server crashing, network issues etc. Each SPOF has different solution. For example for disk we have RAID technology, for Server we have clustering and so on. It is aking to the statement "You are as strong as your weakest link". Even if one of the SPOFs snaps off or fails you could have an unplanned downtime.

Hey Akhil,

Have a look at this

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/success/cssdb.nsf/softwareL2VW?OpenView&Count=30&RestrictToCategory=...

Contact IBM for further details on this solution.

This will completely answer your solution for HA Using AIX 5L and DB2.

Hey Ahkil,

High availability menas the application servers should be available 100% to all the users all the time.

To achieve this there are several methodlogies which are being used by people.

You need to understand how Switchover of servers happens in each technology used by people around the world. Like Fujistu Flexframe which provides this GRC based HA. Here the multiple servers are runing in cluster mode and SAP will be available on one of the physical servers. If the physical server fails the switch over the application image happens to other and ensures availability.

Even there are soultions based on VMware where one of the VM image will have application server running connected SAN. When that particular Virtual server fails Vmotion in VMware will make the image to move to other Virtual server in VMware ensuring application availability.

I hope this clears youe doubt.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Akhil,

The basic thing for high availability system is clustering concepts..For heterogeneous implementation we go for high availability system..

Reward if it's useful..
