Urgent - No portal desktop defined

Hi there

I added my portal desktop to a transport package in DEV, then imported that package into the QA portal.

I then located the master rules collection, and changed the settings such that all users would use the desktop that had just been uploaded.

I then logged off, and logged in, only to get an error message saying "No portal desktop is defined for this user ...".

What do I do now, as I can't log in to the portal to change things. I have tried logging in as the J2EE_ADMIN user, but get the same error message. Is there a way I can edit the master rules collection from elsewhere?

Please, this seems like a bit of a trainsmash to me 😔

Cheers,

Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

    Go to this URL:

    http://<YOUR_SERVERHOST_NAME>:<YOUR_PORT>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fadministrator!2fsystem_admin!2fsystem_admin_role!2fcom.sap.portal.system_admin_ws!2fcom.sap.portal.themes!2fcom.sap.portal.portalDisplayRules

This will launch the Portal display rules page directly.

Now follow the steps mentioned in this" target="_blank">https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/thread?threadID=25962">this thread

    Hope this helps,

    Roy

    Thanks for all the answers.

I did find a link in another message no-portal-desktop-defined-for-this-user which helped me at least log back in and then I could play around again.

The error it seems, is the theme I had defined in DEV hadn't been implented in QA ... as soon as I assigned a valid theme to the desktop, then all worked as required.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

There is a lesson to be learned here: never, ever, change the administration desktop.

The main rules collection should look something like this:

      IF User = Administrator

      THEN Portal Desktop = pcd:portal_content/every_user/general/defaultDesktop

      IF User = *

THEN Rule Collection = YOUR RULE COLLECTION

These are the only changes you should make to the mail rules collection, since it could be changed by the next portal upgrade (it's an sap.com supplied object).

You then have your rules in a rule collection in your namespace.

You'll notice that the first rules exists for the administrator - this ensures that even if you damage your corporate desktop, the original desktop will remain. If you're forced to use the same desktop for everyone (including the administrator), create another user and give it super_admin rights, and assign it the original desktop. This user would only be used in case of an 'emergency'...

You always, always want to leave yourself a way to get into the portal....
