Unicode Flag in JCO RFC Provider

Former Member

Hi!!

I'm facing the next problem:

We're defining connection of non unicode Business system. And according to XI Configuration guide you need to define a NONUNICODE registered server program in the JCO RFC Provider. eg LCRSAPRFC_NONUNICODE and switch the flag for Unicode to off.

In the next help page i do see the flag that should be switched off:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/78/20244134a56532e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm

However in our system the checkbox to switch unicode on or off is not available/not visible.

Anybody seen this problem before?

Thanks in advance!!

Emile

Michal,

None of the destinations has the checkbox available.

And creating new one also does not solve.

I did see OSS note (608296) telling that you can create an XML file with all the parameters.

However this not realy straight forward to do. And I wonder why checkbox is not standard available.

Our system is PI7.0 SP8 and running central SLD.

Cheers,

I've found an oss note saying the flag has been removed from NW04s:

1060426:

Symptom

You are missing the "Unicode" check box for the JCo RFC Provider service in the Visual Administrator

Other terms

Unicode, non Unicode setting, rfcengine

Reason and Prerequisites

You are using NW04s and would like to configure the JCo RFC Provider service with the Visual Administator

Solution

Starting with version NW04s the "Unicode" check box has been removed because the JCo RFC Provider will automatically detect the Unicode capability of the ABAP application server through its repository connection at runtime. A repository client configuration is required for each JCo RFC Provider.

So the JCo RFC Provider server will automatically run in Unicode mode if the partner ABAP application server is a Unicode system. But the RFC destination in sm59 still must be marked as "Unicode" in this case.
