Hosting of Data Provisioning Adapters

Hi experts,

I just have a quick question about hosting of DP Adapters. What is hosted on DP Server and what is hosted on DP Agent?

Official docs are saying following about the DP Agent:

"It provides connectivity for all those sources where the driver cannot run inside the Data Provisioning Server. Through the Data Provisioning Agent, the preinstalled Data Provisioning Adapters communicate with Data Provisioning Server for connectivity, metadata browsing, and data access. The Data Provisioning Agent also hosts custom adapters created using the Adapter SDK."

Does this mean that only custom Adapters are hosted by DP Agent while preinstalled can be hosted on both DP Server and DP Agent. Or, there is a difference between driver and adapter in this context?

Thanks

Hi,
The DP Server is used by the SAP Data Provisioning Agent when access Remote Data Sources & Virtual Tables using SAP Server Smart Data Integration.
The Data Provisioning Agent hosts all SDI Adapters and acts as the communication interface between Hana and the Adapter. As such the DP Agent version has to match the Hana version. Which version to use is best found out by looking at the PAM (link) for Hana SDI, the Essential Information document.
