Materials with Planning Type ND

Hi all,

For materials that are marked with planning type ND, while running MPS/MRP, there are planned orders created for the requirements created thru a Sales Order. On further investigation we found that the Item Category in the sales order item TAN has been assigned to planning types CP in our system in configuration settings VOV5 & VOV6.

What is the relation between these two and what is the basic settings in a standard SAP system for a material marked as ND?Which materials are usually marked for this planning type in a Plant?

Thanks and Regards in advance,

Deepak Prasanna S

    Dear Mr.Prasanna,

Planning type ND will generally be assigned to consumables material type.

Like some solutions of liquid type, beakers, test tubes etc.

For these materials Purchase requsitions will be created manually when needed and then processed.

For ND materials mostly costing view will not be maintained.Accounting view is sufficient for this.

I hope this will help u in understanding it clearly.

    If useful reward points.

    Thanks & Regards

      Hi Deepak,

There are lot of materials which are with MRP type ND. These are materials generally sales parts which will be procured from known vendor...these will not be manufacture...only procure and sales like in warehouse.Hence not requires any planning. for example Distributor for CAR ...he only purchase car from companies and sales as per the customer requireements.

As i said there will be no planning reuqires...you have to create sales orders manually with no planning indicator and you can do the deleivery..Goods issues all those functions. In the sameway you have to procure with creating PO manually.

If you ahve any question then please revert, or close this thread with suitable points.

    Deepak,

Actually the combination of MRP type and item category determines whether the requirements are passed to MRP. In standard SAP there are no requirements passed for ND.

The item catagory is determined in sales order processing (depending on the sales configuration). Now the key which is the combination of MRP type and Item categiry determines the sch line catgory which passes the requirements to MRP.

    Hope this is clear.

    Deepak,

ND should not be configured for planning in VOV5 in std system. If planning is not required for a material then an MRP view will not be required hence planning will not take place. But if a material has an MRP view with PD and later you do not want it to be planned then you set it as ND. Other scenario is when you create the MRP views for all the materials uniformly but do not want to consider some materials for planning.

Will ND marked materials never be considered for MRP in a standard system?

YES, IF IT IS MARKED WITH ND, IT IS NOT PLANNED FOR THE PLANNING AND IT IS CONSUMABLE MATERIALS ONLY

How is the link between MRP type and Item Category in a Sales Order established?

MRP IS FOR THE PLANNING AND ITEM CATEGORY IS THE PRICE RELATED ONE IN SD

    NO LINK B/W THEM

How this Schedule Line Category in sales order influences the requirements passing to the MRP?which setting is at a higher level..MRP type or Schedule Line Category&Item Category??

    Proposed schedule line category

The schedule line category that the system proposes for a particular combination of

    Item category

    MRP type

    during sales order processing.

    Use

During processing, the system automatically proposes an item category, depending on factors such as the

    Sales document type and

    Item category group

The MRP type comes from the material master record. The resulting schedule line category determines, for example, whether the system

Passes on requirements to MRP, and if so, what kind

    Allows goods issue

    Allows inventory management

You can also define alternative schedule line categories.

    thank u all once again!!!
