SAP Best Practices: SAINT or SAP Best Practices Installation Assistant !!!

Former Member

Hi I need to install SAP Best Practices Baseline PT V1.600 and with sap SME email I get a ppt that tells to use SAINT to install the baseline.

BUT when I read the "Quick Guide to Installing the SAP Best Practices Baseline Package (PT)", nothing is told about SAINT, insted is said to use a new tool called: the SAP Best Practices Installation Assistant and several steps.

My question is WHY two ways to install a baseline, both are needed or SAINT is the old one. If SAINT is the old one what does this new tool ???

Please Help.

Hi Luis,

You still need to load the Best Practice software via SAINT as any ADDON installation. You will load the "Installation Assistant" as well as the "Best Practice" you want. Check the SAP note: 1006645 and 945855 for details.

"Installation Assistant" can only be used after the software is loaded in the system via SAINT. You can start Installation Assistant via Transaction '/SMB/BBI'. You can think it as IMG project for system configuration.

TYhe document you mentioned "Quick Guide to Installing the SAP Best Practices Baseline Package (PT)", considers that the software itself already has been loaded via SAINT.

Hope it clarifies ...

HI Satyabrata

Thanks for the answer, really helfull.

Based in your experience is possível to install the baseline if the sp level is one level above the one that sap recommends. SAP say tha doing that the support is limited, but maybe not impossibel...

What is your expirience in this?

Hi Luis,

SP level higher should not be a problem. SAP mentions the minimum requirement for the installation. However, you have to be on the same version (e.g. ECC 6.0).

Perhaps, you can let em know your exact scenario (the recommended and your existing patch level) so that I can have a check...

Cheers !!
