Tool Tip for every measure in IDT

HI,

I have a requirement where business wants to use the 'description text' entered while creating the objects(measures in particular) in IDT as Tool tip in All reports & Dashboards.

So basically whenever the user hovers over any measure in webi or dashboard, the description text entered while creating that particular measure should appear.

Please suggest the best possible way to deal this.

Hi Ahsan,

What do you mean by, "...whenever the user hovers over any measure...", hovering over any measure in the list of objects (in Data tab) in Webi, or hovering over a column as well in table, if a measure is used in it? Also, in a Dashboard, only Query Browser shows list of measures from universe, do you want to show description of a measure when hovering over a table/chart (in Dashboard) if they're used?

I read in a discussion/post that SDK can be used to extract object descriptions from Universe. I'm not a Java programmer, so can't comment much on that.

Thanks,

Hi Mahboob,
Explaining further. The measures created in the universe are used by multiple reports and dashboard. So when the user is using the document for example. The measure created shows its 'name' field in the tooltip for any particular data point (for example Sales monthly trend chart) will show month, Sales (name field) and Sales figure for that data point.

Now the requirement is instead of Sales ('Sales' is text in the name area while creating the measure) , the mouse hover should show the description field (e.g "This is total Sales")

Few things to note: there are multiple reports& dashboards using a universe with 100s of measures. So i am looking for any solution excluding:

1. Changing the name field (and make it a bit more descriptive))

2. Creating a measure description report/excel and publish it on platform for user's reference for measures

3. Editing Reports to edit column header or include variables

4. editing dashboards to make required changes in mouse hovers
