Adding another application server.

Hi Experts,

My company is having 2 system landscape.

DEV & QAS in one and PRD in one server.

in recent years, my company is growing faster.

i.e increasing number of End users and database growth.

and now the task is to add 2 or more application servers.

my doubts about application server are as follows:-

1 *Deploying application server means is tht installation of sap central instance in

new server or installing an Dailog instance ?

2 *How to add new installed application server to the existing land scape ?

3 *how to group up the added application servers in to a group , so that the

user will get connected to sap by tht group of application server?

requesting you to give some inputs on adding new application server and

solution for database growth ?

    Hi,

I am guessing that you wish to add extra application servers to PRD.

1.That being the case, you need to install Dialog instances on the new servers.

    2. They do not need to be added to the Landscape in terms of STMS (transport system), they just appear as application servers on the PRD system

    3. Use transaction SMLG to create a Logon Group and add in the new application servers to that group. Then the users need to access that group rather than the Central Instance, which relieve load. See the SAP Help on Logon Load Balancing for this.

      Hi Raghav,

As you install the new Dialog instance, you are asked for the CI. That's how the link is made at the SAP level.

      SMLG - correct

No, you don't need to manually create RFC's - they will be created automatically as required during the installation process.

    Hi raghav,

U first need to install a dialogue instance and during installation you will have to point out your CI details.Once the Dialogue instance installation is done, enable Buffer synchronisation using Rz10 parameter buffref/* parameters.

Then to load balance the requests coming in ur PRD.Need to add logon groups in SMLG.in case you have RFC connections coming in to ur PRD all these connections can be bundled to an RFC group using RZ12.

    Hi

Even i have come across the same situation while installing new app server for my installation .Once you are done with the installation and if everything has gone fine then the app server should appear in sm51 list of servers and when you double click it you will be diverted to the work process overview screen .If this is not happening then one option would be to open 32<instance n0> and 33<instance no> ports .
