Do you have a mail server (not SAP) that SAP app server can connect to (over network)?

If yes, you can do it; if not you need to have a mail-server first.

- SICF - activate the SMTP host/service

- SCOT - follow the SMTP config section of this <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/5889">weblog</a>

This is all you need to do.

You need to have the mail-server. It may be another PC or server on your network (eg exchange server), you need to get its ip or name and specify that in mail-host. You also need to get smtp port for the same (server) - it is usually 25 if I remember it correct.

Are you doing it on home PC, or is it a customer site?

You will need to ask someone in system support as to what is their mail-server. You need the name or ip of that machine (which is hosting the mail-server) and mention it in SCOT definition.

Well, send an email to test - wouldn't that be the obvious thing to do to test it? (System ->short message : from any sapgui screen).

Your user-id needs to have an email-id associated with it (SU01) for you to be able to send an email.

Once you send the message it might be in 'waiting' status in SCOT. You need to 'execute' it in SCOT and then it should either send the message or end in error.
