Validity of currency code

Hi

Was wondering if anyone can advise on this:

I've set the valid until date as 1.6.2007 for one of the currency code in IMG->General settings-> Currencies -> Check currency code.

However was still able to post a FI document using that currency today (29.6.2007).

Is this the expected behaviour? What is the purpose of the "valid until" date then?

Regards.

Hello Hui Siang, Anne Goh

The behaviour which you are observing is not an unexpected one. Actually in the SAP standard recipient system, all currencies are defined according to the international ISO standard.SAP recommends that you use the ISO standard for your additional entries. If your entries do not correspond to the ISO standard, you will not be able to use data exchange in international communication (e.g. bank clearing transactions).

The Valid until field which you are refering to is actually the fied which defines the validity of currency code in ISO defintion and it should be left baln ideally.

===========================================================

Posting is related to the currency in which the account is to be kept.

This defines the following:The currency used for postings made to this account

The currency in which transaction figures are updated and the account balance is displayed. You specify the account currency in the company code area of the G/L account master data. This allows you to keep the G/L account in the local currency of each company code. This is especially useful for international groups that have all subsidiaries use the same chart of accounts but with the accounts kept in the local currency.

Hope I had been able to help you out. please assign points.

Hi Manish

Thanks for your reply.

Are you able to advise how I could solve my current problem:

There are some foreign currency which my user maintain the exchange rates currently.

In future they wish to stop maintaining the rates of some of the foreign currency. But because the system already store the old rates there is a danger users may pick the wrong exchange rate in future if someone happen to use the foreign currency

How / Where can I set the validity of the currency code to prevent users from using these codes? I've explored the possibility of using expiring currencies but the std error message is not suitable.

Thank you.
