3.5 to 2004s upgrade problem?

Dear Experts,

I have seen many threads related to upgrade from 3.5 to 2004s? still few things are not clear to me as a BW data modeller i would like to know can a cube or ODS be migrated from 3.5 to 2004s? or is it that only the structure of the cube or ODS is migrated? incase if the cube or ODS is migrated will it have the the TR/UR like in 3.5? if it has UR/TR then as a modeller what am i supposed to do with the cube?

As a modeller what am i expected to do in an upgraded project?

if you can present me with an example about an cube or objedct that is being migrated from 3.5 to 2004s and some analysis being done that will be of great help.

points will be awarded.

thansk in advance...

Hi,

Having gone thru a few upgrades, here are a few things to watch for:

1. All 3x objects are shown as emulated in the new version and are not automatically converted to 2004s. This includes any business content installed, if it`s 3.x BC, then they will be emulated.

2. For the most part emulated 3.x objects will work in the new version. I`ve seen some issues with ABAP in the transfer and update rules - but testing should find these issues.

3. You should convert the objects to 2004s after the upgrade is complete and successful. You will need to use the new Data Transfer Process and remove update and transfer rules. This means major work if you have a lot of ABAP.

Good luck,

Kathleen

Hello Everyone,

We have recently upgraded our Testing Environment to NW2004s SP10, and the system is currently Non-Changeable and all the other changes have been brought in via transports.

After SGEN has completed, when I try to open up an existing InfoPackage and click on the "Start" button it gives me the "You have only authorization to display the "InfoProvider" name".

If it is the load into DSO it complains about Activity 23 not available for the Subobject UPDATERULE of the object S_RS_ODS and if it is an InfoCube it complains about Activity 23 again for the Subobject UPDATERULE of the object S_RS_ICUBE.

Which doesn't really make sense as the Activity 23 would allow the change to the Update Rules for the InfoProviders.

Please advice if there is any other Role or Profile which needs to be maintained or a system setting to avoid this Auth Check.

Also, the same when repeated in the Development environment shows the message "Generating the Update Program" in the status bar below and once that has completed, the extract works fine.

Please advice......

Any help would be really appreciated as we are kind of stuck on this issue.

Thanks

Dharma.

Hi abaper,

The cube and ODS are migrated to the 2004s but the TR/UR concept is for the 3.5 only. so they ll b meaningless in the 7.0 system...

What matters is the data that is there in these objects.

As a modeller you ll b doing some pre and post processes in adjusting the system during an upgrade process.

regards,

Naveenan.

HI Naveenan,

Thanks for the reply. can you be more clear by explaining what are the pre and post process? once the cube is migrated from 3.5 to 2004s then what do you mean by upgradtion for this cube?

thansk in advance.
