If so, iare there any specific SP levels requried on ECC 5.0 to connect with NetWeaver 2004s (SR1 and SR2)

Appreciate help on this as soon as possible...

Thanks

Hi,

There are two types of SAP NetWeaver deployments for SAP ERP (ECC).

1. Embedded : the SAP NetWeaver within the ECC itself which is on the same system and is required for ECC to run (i.e. the application server). This cannot be upgraded without upgrading the ECC too.

2. Standalone: This is SAP NetWeaver system(s) installed separately to the SAP ERP (ECC) system but connected the ECC system (i.e. Portal, BI, etc). Typically these installations can be upgraded independently to the connected ECC system and they will work as before. I say typically as it depends on the ECC application content you have installed on these SAP NetWeaver systems. You will have to do a little research on, for example, the business packages you have deployed, SEM deployed on BI or any JAVA application content (web dynpro, etc). This application content will have to be upgraded at the same time as the underlying SAP NetWeaver system so this may require additional effort (in your case to the SAP ERP 6.0 release). I would do an inventory and check the SAP ERP 6.0 upgrade guides for more info.

So from a pure technology perspective the answer is yes but you will have do some checks on the SAP ERP(ECC) specific deployments.

I hope this helps,

Mike.

Thanks Mike.

I understand the effort requried to upgrade the applciation content on Netweaver systems. In my case, its standalone deployment of Portal and there are some custom components developed.

Can you tell me if there are any specific SP patch levels requreid on ECC for Portal 7.0 (NW 2004s) SR1/SR2 to connect to...

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

If you don't have any SAP ERP content installed then any SP Stack level will technically work. Obviously the latest SP Stack will be the one to recommend but is practice you just need to at the equivalence level of your current Portal SP level (this ensures that you are the same level of fixes and do not degrade your system during upgrade). The PREPARE tool determines if this is an issue during its checks.

I would highly recommend including the latest SP-Stack or latest - 1 in your upgrade as this will save you further patching and downtime further down the road.

I hope this helps,

Mike.
