ESS in MSS - does it work in ERP2005 ?

We are on ERP 2005 , EP 7.0 MSS 1.0.. Trying to use the ESS in MSS functionality. Unlike the previous versions the menu path is as follows.

On the MSS screen --> Team --> General Information (Under Employee

Information) --> Related activities --> Self Service for my employee.

I am able to see all the ESS related links like "Record Working Time",

"Personal Data","Address","Bank Information" etc..

But on clicking any of these links, I am taken to a blank page.

There are no errors listed.

All the prerequisites listed on documentation have been met.The ESS

works fine outside MSS. Also, we are using SAP_ALL profile for MSS to

make sure there are no authorization related restrictions.

Also the entries are maintained correctly as per note 903370.

Has this functionality been successfully implemented in ECC 6.0/ERP2005 ?

Regards,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

It works. We are in sandbox. Tested Record working Time and it is working fine.

Hello.

Don't remember that you need to install last SP for ESS (I've installed SAPESS08P_9_20000512.SCA and SAPPCUIGP08_0-20001215.SCA), and, of course, configure the business package(s) .

I've got an extra question : ESS is working at the moment (ERP2005 + Portal 7.0), but I don't like that every link (find, personal data, ...) opens in a new IE window. As the result, I've got error:

Connection pool SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_myusername_RU_useSSO is exhausted. The current pool size limit (max connections) is 10 connections.

I can increase these limits in "Maintain JCo destination", but it is not good idea. Can it work in one browser window ?

Evgeny.

Evgeny,

I can't give a definite answer since I haven't tried to start or stop pages or iViews from launching in new windows, but in our ESS I can navigate, for example, to Personal Information > Personal Data and a new window is not launched.

For the Personal Information Page (

com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pages/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.personal_information/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.area_personal_information

), have you checked the value of the "Launch in New Window" property? My property is "Display in Portal Content Area". There are three other "Display in Separate...." options.

Check the same property for the Personal Data Page (

com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pages/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.personal_information/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.us/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pdata/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pdata

). Mine is "Display in Portal Content Area".

The same holds true for the Personal Information iView (

com.sap.pct.erp.ess.iviews/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.personal_information/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.area_personal_information

) and the Personal Data iView (

com.sap.pct.erp.ess.iviews/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.personal_information/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.us/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pdata/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pdata

).

If this doesn't help, how about the "Window Name" property of the relevant Resource Key in the back-end ERP system? e.g. is its value "_blank"?

Jill

Hi Mark,

We're running ERP 2005 SPS8 and EP 7.0 SPS11. ESS and MSS Business Packages are at SP8, SAP_ESS is at SP8 Patch 9, SAP_MSS is at SP8 Patch 0.

We were having the same "blank screen" problem in the original post, and applying SAP Note 903370 (Missing Customizing leads to failures in Employee-Profile) did not resolve it. After spending hours on this problem and searching the forums, I took a fresh look at our logs and found the solution to our problem in the defaultTrace.trc log.

For this example I used Personal Data under Self-Service for My Employee. The defaultTrace.trc file showed the exception (inserted spaces for readability):

com.sapportals.portal.pcd.gl.PermissionControlException: Access denied (Object(s):
portal_content/com.sap.pct/every_user/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.bp_folder/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pages/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.personal_information/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.us/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pdata/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.pdata)

The problem was the permissions for the Personal Data (pdata) page itself, not the Personal Data (pdata) iView. As usual, you need to place a check in the End User checkbox for the Everyone Role. We never encountered this problem from the ESS point of view, so had assumed the ESS-in-MSS problem wouldn't be permissions-related.

So for the other ESS-in-MSS items just change the permissions of the respective pages.

Regards,

Jill
