BOM Structure

Hi Guys,

I will have 80% of technical specs available(for the product X at the time of Sale order creation)

Based on the technical specs product can be broadly classified as X,Y,Z but inturn in the assembly they have variants

I will know how much & what to make for next 3 months

The remaining technical Specs will be received during the course of production execution

Products X,Y,Z has 6-8 assembly stages

We are going to maintain only production BOM ,no Sale order BOM

Now how can I maintain my BOM structure?

What i have thought is maintain a basic bom structure & in the production order manually i will add the necessarybom

But that seems not pragmatic as i have to also add the routing manually for the bom's which i will add,How best can i approach & maintain master bom?

Hi Vijay,

First u create a BOM & routing with basic component.Take MRP run, make production order. As u get other component specification you just add those component in master BOM.Then in production order u go for <b>update master data</b> so that the changes in routing or BOM will copy to production order. Then take again MRP run so that new PR will be generated if stock is not available.

If u have already released the order system will revart the same during reading master data.

It will definitely help you, I have done same scenario, dont go for variant.

Dear Suhas,

Your suggestion seems to be ok but i have one doubt

This is ok for the first time but in regular practise every now n then master BOM will be tinkered as per the order requirements, then how can we maintain the so called master,Please give me explanation on this

"If u have already released the order, <u>system will revart the same during reading master data.</u>"? pls explain me this part

Where can i go & find "Update Master Data"?

Vijai,

Check with your FICO person whether it is acceptable to keep changing the BOM components as this would hit variance for every order.

If every sales order needs a new combination of materails it would be preferable to use Order BOM, you can use transaction "CS61".

Suhas,

For PP it is ok, even though too much of manual work is required which is not controlled. How is the order costing taken care in this?

Vijai,

Is this resolved?

Vijai,

As discussed earlier your sub-assembles can be manufactured based on forecast using strategy 70. There is no problem in this.

For the FG you say thre could be variations. Since you are not implementing variant configuration you could consider creating production versions each of which presents the BoM and the related routing. At the time of actual orders receipt before prod execution choose the required prod version. Yes this will become very complicated if many variants are there. The ideal situation in that case would be variant confuguration.

But going by prod version would be better than manual maintenance.

Hope this makes some sense.

Vijai,

I think strategy 60 would suite good for your requirement.

Here you maintain a standard product(80% fixed components) and assign this as Planning Materail to the material master of the sellable material(Seperate BOM with actual sellable material BOM).

Hope this helps....Reward your points if so,
