Need to know the Basics about SAP Gui, ok maybe mid_level

Here is the Quick and Sweet, what should one know about SAP GUI. (think back from when you started with it to now)..

now a more IT/IS based questions ,

the "client" is it Java based? Asking this may seem off but when installing it on Windows/OSX and other OS it can help with Network and other trouble shooting issue.

what are some good testing tricks..

in short I am asking as over the past year I haven't really pushed back when problem come up. like sap is running slow, it seem like the back support team always points to internet or Citrix as being the Problem but now real why or what needs to be done to fix it. and we have never been able to really find anything in either of them that would say it is internet or Citrix..

here is one that seem to happen at less once a week, end-user will call stating SAP is slow, now we are talking about the page to page or a when entering transaction code. it take about 10 to 25 second longer then normal..

quick layout - we are using an off-Site servers that are Manange by "back bone" support company. we have site to site connection, here Fiber - on BBS side not a clue, asked and was told to stop.. that from a non- IT IS director (of IT). Clients or end-user side, we are about 100 users, connected by one of the following, Citrix push app about 5 to 10, Citrix farm aka terminal and the good old windows install. both Citrix servers are windows base as well.

So I started off "simple" ERP's are never simple.. any thoughts would be greatly helpful and useful..

Thanks
