How can we remove old content from the install cache after BI 4.2 SP4 installation?

Per KB1676695, once you install BI 4.2 SP4, you are no longer able to remove older service packs and patches. Removing no longer needed service packs and patches was a recommended practice to improve installation/patch performance, as well as free up large amounts of disk space from the d:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\InstallCache directory.

What SAP supported options do we have for cleaning up older patches now that 4.2 SP4 will not allow us to use the 'remove' link in 'Programs and Features' in Windows anymore to perform these tasks?

Hi Garrick,

There is no longer a way to clean up the older (<4.2SP04) patches and support packages after upgrade to SP04 (any patches later than SP04 can be cleaned up however).

Alternatives are to build a new server with a full build of 4.2 SP04 and then migrate the full repository content from the old server to the new one using LCMCLI (KB1969259) or by using a backup/restore procedure (KB 1275068).

You can do clean up before upgrade.
