item category not determined in returns process

Hi

I am trying to create a return process and I have maintained copy control from sales order to the return document for all the item categories.

My problem is that the item category TAN, TAS are redetermined but TAD is not getting determined when I create a return order.

Can someone help on the same please.

Ajay,

You need to point out the error you are getting during RA (return order) creation. Problem can be present in configuration of item cateogry assignment (Tcode VOV4) or copying controls also can default to a item category (Tcode VTAA).

So if you can mention the error and when it is happening we can suggest some solution.

Hi Naren,

I want the item to be copied from sales order to the return oder. When i copy the item with item category TAS, the item category is getting determined in returns order. But, the same is not happening in case of a service material i.e.for TAD item category.

I get the message that "Item category not determined for line item XXX" and the item does not get copied.

Hi Ajay,

Just check if the item category TAD is assigned to the combination of sales document type and the item category group ,you have put in the material master.

The problem will surely get resolved.

TAD is for Service. Normally once the service is provided, logically, it cannot have a return for the same. Instead, if you still want to provide Credit Memo for the Service provided, in that case use normal Credit Memo Request & Credit Memo.

Hi,

I think u have taken the case of 3RD party as ur item category is TAS which is there for 3rd party order and this case return will go to third party and not to ur company.

Correct me if i am wrong.
