SAP Design Studio - 3rd Axis / Z-Axis in bar chart

Hello dear community,

I need a way to put an additional axis into a bar chart.

For normal a bar chart has a Y axis and a X axis.

But now I want to display the data in a bar chart, which has 3 axes : X, Y and Z.
I've already tried to search in the internet how to do that in SAP Design Studio but I still haven't found any solution yet.

And if somebody knows how to also display that chart in 3D would also be helpful.

Thanks and Regards,

Vu

Hi Vu - are you really looking for a 3-D chart? Best practices recommend against it - see Stephen Few's blog: https://www.perceptualedge.com/blog/?p=2362

Hi Vu,

The standard Design Studio charts only support 2 axes. 3 axes are not supported. If you can clarify your business use case, we might be able to suggest an alternative approach. The first thought that comes to mind is a Bubble Chart as it allows plotting of 3 variables.

Mustafa.

Hi Mustafa,

thanks for the quick reply.

Isn't there even ONE way to implement a chart with 3 axes?

I mean I have seen some possibilities to display the data in charts with 2 X-axes or 2 Y-axes, so I thought that there must be a way to implement a chart with 3 axes...

I don't think a bubble chart is what I want...

Thanks and Regards,

Vu

Hi Vu,

Can you be more specific about what you are trying to visualise and why 3 axes are required?

Mustafa.

Hi Mustafa,

unfortunately I can't tell you for data protection reasons.

But I found out that it would be possible in WebIntelligence (Webi).

Do you think there is any way I can "embed" a three-dimensional chart from Webi in SAP Design Studio?

Thanks and Regards,

Vu

Hi Vu,

If you must, you could try embedding a WebI report using the Community SDK Embedded iFrame 2.0 component:

http://org-scn-design-studio-community.github.io/sdkinstall/web/components/

That being said, I will re-iterate Tammy's point that 3D charts are not an effective means of communicating business data visualisations so I would advise against using such a chart. Also, there seems to be some confusion about the type of chart you are looking for. You are asking about a chart with 3 axes as well as a 3D chart. The only way to render a chart with 3 axes would be in 3D anyway, unless a dual-axis chart is considered a chart with 3 axes (including the category axis).

Without any further information about your use case, I think this is as far as we can go with recommendations.

Regards,

Mustafa.
