Crystal Reports Viewer XI sort problem with stored procedure-based reports

Hello,

I have a legacy report viewer solution, based on Crystal ActiveX Report Viewer Library 11.5 and Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Run Time Library 11.5, solution which is successfully used – on Windows 7 32-bit / 64-bit computers – to view reports defined using various versions of SAP Crystal Reports, including the 2016 version.

Recently, in an effort to comply with new security requirements, the reports using table-based / view-based queries have been adapted to use only stored procedure-based queries (Oracle database).

While these new, stored procedure-based reports are still successfully viewed using the legacy report viewer solution, the sort order – specified using the RecordSortFields property (provided by the CRAXDRT.Report class) – is simply ignored, regardless the sorting direction, ascending or descending.

This is not the case with the reports using table-based / view-based queries, for which the sort order is correctly interpreted by the legacy report viewer solution (the libraries mentioned above, actually) and, consequently, the report’s data is displayed in the correct sort order.

My first question: is this behavior – ignoring the RecordSortFields property – normal, for the libraries mentioned above (Crystal ActiveX Report Viewer Library 11.5 and Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Run Time Library 11.5), when viewing stored procedure-based reports? If it isn’t normal – how can these libraries be used in order to force the report’s data to be displayed in the exact sort order specified by the RecordSortFields property, when viewing such stored procedure-based reports?

Using SAP Crystal Reports 2016 SP2, I modified a stored procedure-based report and added a sort control to one of the report’s fields. While the sort control is visible and operational using the Preview menu item, inside SAP Crystal Reports 2016 SP2 (as well as SAP Crystal Reports Viewer 2013), it is not visible using the legacy report viewer solution, nor the SAP Crystal Reports Viewer 2008.

My second question: is the sort control available to the libraries mentioned above (Crystal ActiveX Report Viewer Library 11.5 and Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Run Time Library 11.5)? If it is – how can these libraries be used in order to have the sort control visible and operational during the report’s execution?

Thanks,

Christian
