Hello BI Expert,
I have a datasource in R/3 when I replicate it to BI side ..how can we decide that we want to do the data modelling by BW 3.x or BI 7.0.
Also how does the migration process works...do we have to migrate each and every object ..in that case how does your Transfer and Update rules become Transfomation. What changes in the system takes place when we do migration.
-Will assign full points
From birds view or 50,000 feet above below is the insights-
If you want to use vanilla business content(cubes, transfer structure, update rules) delivered by SAP with little of enhancements go with 3.x ,if NOT go with 7.0
rationale - with 7.0 dataflow all the update rules, transfer rules will get deleted automatically and so you have to do all those ABAP coding delivered by SAP on your own now manually in the new world called Transformations .
You may wish to go through the links below for detailed lucid explainations.
Migration -
Migrate Transformations
Hope it Helps

how can we decide that we want to do the data modelling by BW 3.x or BI 7.0.
Its purely ur(client) call which way u want to go. Either way works fine. It was a million dollar question before SP10, but with SP13, 7.0 dataflow/objects are pretty stable.
do we have to migrate each and every object?
Yes you need to - no mass migration tool
in that case how does your Transfer and Update rules become Transfomation.
When you migrate the transfer/update rules, system will propose transformations. Activate and test them. Once statisfied, go ahead and delete the old transfer/update rules.
What changes in the system takes place when we do migration.
3.x DS will be converted to 7.0 DS(RSDS)
transfer/update rules should be converted to transformations.
Creation of DTP woul dbe warranted as the transformation and DTP's have 1:1 relationship
You would need to convert the infosource to 7.0 infosource (Infosource is optional in 7.0, again ur call)
