Synchronous Messages

When we are dealing with the ASynchronous messages They are all persisted in the Database?

How about the Synchronous Message? Where they are retained?

    As a practice, by default all Synchronous Messages are not persisted at XI either DB or Archive places. But its possible to persiste these messages as well by enabling 'LOGGING_SYNC' from Configuration of Integration Engine.
