Unit of Measure on 0Material

I am trying to retrieve the uom based on 0Material.

Here is my dilema...

When the key figure - quantity (0COPASLQTY)- was created, it had the UOM (0COPASLQTU) associated with it. Having done so, I cannot have a characteristic relationship for this level / layout.

In my layout, I want the user to enter the material and the uom associated with that populated in the cube. I cannot have the uom in the header since there are many different materials entered in the layout. I cannot have it in the lead column as the user should not have to enter the uom. My last choice is the data column.

If I use the data column, I would like to have it linked to a variable. And have it dervived.

Is this possible or does someone have a better easier solution?
