importing XSS track

Hi,

Im trying to create a track for XSS 600 (SP 8) on EP 7 SP 11. I am following the NWDI cookbook for XSS. Here I have many doubts.

Currently DEV and QA is ready. So in Runtime Systems I have specified Development and Consolidation system as my DEV server and Test as my QA. In transport Studio I could see many tabs "Check-In" - "Development" - "Consolidation" - "Assembly" - "Test" - "Approval" - "System State". "Production" tab is not visible as I haven't specified any PRD system in Runtime.

Now I have to import these packages into a track so that I could do some customization and add new DCs.

I want to know the following:

1. What does Consolidation do, and does the activities take place in the system that we specify in Runtime system under Consolidation?

2. Is there any need to do Consolidation step before doing any customization?

3. How should I follow the import? The result should be that, I want my custom development to reach to QA and then to PRD.

4. Also when my PRD is ready how to add it in the track? If I do the "Restore System State" do I need to follow the import steps from start?

Please explain in detail. Points will be rewarded.

I have read the link in help.sap.com but still my doubts are not clear.

Regards,

Piyush.

What does Consolidation do, and does the activities take place in the system that we specify in Runtime system under Consolidation?

The there are three activities that takes place when you import your customization in consolidation sapace . DTR import . CBS Build and SDM deploy . only SDM takes place in the runtime system

Is there any need to do Consolidation step before doing any customization?

i am not sure what do you mean by this . consolidation in your landscape will be QA . This is used for bug fixes etc when you upgrade or patch DEV system

How should I follow the import? The result should be that, I want my custom development to reach to QA and then to PRD.

All you have to do is during track creation specify your runtime systems DEV and QA in Development and consolidation . for prod specify in production

Also when my PRD is ready how to add it in the track? If I do the "Restore System State" do I need to follow the import steps from start?

Restore System State wil nto effect Test and PRD system because youa re creating an assembly file SCA to deploy in to your TEST and PRD Env

      Hi,

      1. How are activities under Development tab different from that in Consolidation tab?

      2. I guess if we dont specify any Consolidation system under Runtime system tab, by default it takes the system on which NWDI is configured? In my case its DEV system.

      3. I still couldnt understand the exact difference and use of Track_D and _C.

I understood that once the Assembly phase is completed only the deployable parts are transported to TEST and PRD. So if we are making any change in Runtime system (Track Details) then there is no need to re import or restore system.

As restoring system takes a lot of time and effort I want to avoid that. For my current track (created a new one) I havent specified any Consolidation System and have started with the import.

Can you please tell me the whole flow, life cycle from DEV to PRD, similar to what I have stated above? (including the customization stage)

After which stage should I start with customization of DCs (Development tab or Consolidation tab phase)?

      Regards,

      Piyush.

ps: I am new as NWDI admin so have a lot of confusion. Please have patience. 😊
