Excel reporting

Are there reasons why users prefer to analyze their reports using the Web rather than the Excel frontend? Would you recommend the users to validate the data using the Excel and to deliver the Web reporting side when in production?

To give much more clarification, some users prefer EXCEL based BEX Analyzer as they can perform their own calculations (Excel Formulae), formatting, etc which is not a feature available with BW3.5 Web reports.

This is also a point some Financial guys would go for BEX Analyzer based reports rather than Web reports.

    regards,

That would be a very tricky question - finance/accountant folks love to stick to thier excel sheets rather than Web reports - every as the executives prefer web, to avoid the hassle of opening Bex(not to mention - they dont even remember thier BW passwords) and would love to see all the reports on the portal in one place....

So your decision would be pretty much driven by the customers you would be serving

It depends on type of user....I know many Finance user still prefer to work on Excel only....but those who r more internet savy prefer Web....its a matter of more user friendly GUI.

Can anybody tell me what is the setup needed to switch from web brwoser reporting to excel front-end reporting. I am seeing that when I execute a query from "query designer", it tries to run on the browser directly rather than the excel front -end. I want to change that to run on excel front end.

I know, to run on the browser, we need to add the URl on hosts file in windows. If we remove that, will it run on excel automatically as default?

    Thanks

    Raj
