Hi All,

Thanks in advance.

Is it wise to do online reorg OS - DB level without Breaking HADR , Will it create any impact in Standby Server?

If we did Online reorg in Primary Server how to revert back.

Application Versions:

SAP level: 7.40

Db: db2 LUW 9.7

OS: HP-Unix

Hi Mithran,

are you talking about INPLACE REORG? Why do you want to do REORG?

I believe note 1942183 is a nice overview note. RECLAIM REORGs should be done also in a HADR cluster. Other REORGs I would only perform if neccessary and not in a regular manner.

If a non reclaim REORG can not be avoided I would also think about using ADMIN_MOVE_TABLE via DB6CONV instaead of using a traditional DB2 REORG.

Huh! DB2 9.7 with SAP 7.40 ?! Any strong reason to use this old DB2 version?

Hi Mithran,

As far as I know, HADR (secondary site) may have performance issue based on fragmentation. The relay part can run longer/performance issue at DR site.

You need or may require to tune in some parameters to avoid this.

Please go through below link that should help you choosing the type or reorg (offline/online) and all that.

Hi Prithiviraj,

Thanks a lot,

One doubt is that We have run reorg without breaking HADR in Primary Server(DC).

Usually we used to break HADR and start Reorg.

What we do usually:

1.stop the application

2.break the HADR

3.login as dbuser and execute reorg cmd

4.start the application

5.sync HADR after some time

What exactly we did this time:

1.stopped the application

2.logged in as dbuser and ran the reorg command in OS level in primary server(DC) without breaking HADR

I checked tablespaces no issues so far, Application started after reorg and all good.

My doubt is whether during DC to DR switch will it create any inconsistency?

Thanks again

Mithran

Hi Mithran,

Unless and until the sync is incomplete there should be no issues.

I have not come across any issues yet, the best way is to try it out (on weekends :P).

Lets wait to see if other experts has something else to say on this topic.

Hi Prithviraj Rajpurohit,

we have switched to DR Side successfully and we have faced no issues. As you said it did not reflect/cause any db issues since reorg was done with HADR in active, we did not stop the db.

I was waiting for the switch over hence delay in reply.

Thanks for your input
