S/4HANA Migration Cockpit - Internal Number Ranges Materials

Dear Experts,

In S/4HANA we are trying to do an upload of Materials via the new Migration Cockpit. After several tries and searches, I can't seem to find how to upload the materials with an internal number range.

The Number Range for the Material Type is Ok and the group contains only one interval, which is an internal range. So I would suppose that whenever I try to upload one material, the system would use these settings and recognize that it should be internal numbering. In the 'Material Number' field, I entered a value, so that over the different tabs, the direct link between lines is available.

Can any of you guys help me out here? Is it possible to do a Material Upload with an internal number range in the Migration Cockpit?

Thank you very much!

Best Regards,
Guy De Coninck

very valid question indeed. For the customers, I found out that in 'Convert values' for customer, there is an option 'Customer internal or external numbering' where in the details, you can define internal numbering.

However, for material in release 1709, I don't find the same option. Hence, I don't believe it's possible till today to create material with internal numbering, unless someone can point us in the right direction.

EDIT: see SAP note 2565362 - LTMC Migration - Material changes from internal to external numbering -

LTMC can only migrate materials as external numbering. If internal numbering must be used, then a different data migration or API should be used instead.

What error do you actually get? Or is the material loaded with another number than the desired internal number?

I do not yet know the S/4 migration cockpit, but have a lot experience with creating materials via BAPI and IDOC and LSMW etc .

And here you usually leave the material number field empty to allow SAP to pick the next available number from the internal number range. When ever a number is maintained in the material number field of an IDoc then it is considered as pre-assigned, no matter if this is from internal or external number range, the Idoc would just post the material using this number and not anymore try to find the next number from an internal number range.

Pre-assigning internal numbers with updating the number range is done using the function module NUMBER_GET_NEXT

Of course, your source files must have the old material number to link the lines of several sheets together.
