Bex Variable - reading only from posted values

Our requirment is that we need to select only posted values - and not from the master data table, when executing a query using selection variables. I have tried various setting, ie. IO and Cube specific settings, but as far as I can see this only limits the filtering function of a query. Does anyone now if there is a setting that can be done, whithout using an exit? Btw we are using NW2004s and running web queries

-Found out that the error was in the source, all masterdata was loaded into the cube. The Query select setting does work with variables

Have you selected the setting '..from master data' in the Business Explorer tab of that infoobject on which you are goiong for reporting ?

Yes, you can either do it in the Infoobject property or on the characteristic prop on the Dimension of a cube. Since I only wanted to provide variable restrictions on values posted to the cube, I have selected - D, Only values in infoprovider
