Cost of Sales Accounting

Dear gurus,

We´re about to implement Cost of Sales Accounting, but given that I´ve never worked with that, would like to ask you:

- Effort to configure it: what needs to be done?

- Impact on any other functionality

- Would there be too much master data affected?. Is it easily updatable?

- Risks: what should be look after when configuring it?.

Any hint about the mentioned topics would help very much...

Thanks a lot in advance.

Juá

    One more thing,

do not worry ... if you made incorrect assignments of functional area's, consult SAP note 677630. It provides a correction program to correct functional areas in FI documents.

    1) activate cost of sales accounting (FI/global settings/company codes/cost of sales accounting ...

-> interesting is you can choose between in preparation en production. The first one means the' functional area' field becomes active for master data assignments but is not posted yet in produciton. Ideally if you need some time to make all the master data assignments.

    2) define functional area (under enterprise organisation / Structures ...

    3) assign functional area's to CO objects (cost centers / production order types / internal orders , ... and optionally to P&L accounts

    4) as of version 47, allow functional area as CO object when working with fixed assets (in fixed assets customizing).

    5) define reports in report painter

    that is.

-> most of the work is thinking about and setting up the master data assignments (of the functional area). Configuration part is very little.

    regards

    Dear All,

Thanks very much for your help. However, if you happen to be aware of them, could you also help me with the following points:

    - Impact on any other functionality

    - Would there be too much master data affected?. Is it easily updatable?

    - Risks: what should be look after when configuring it?.

Thanks a lot in advance again!

    Kind regards,

    Juá

      Hi Juan,

As I already mentioned: impact on other modules: only fixed assets (in case of SAP version >= 47. Just allow functional area as possible cost object (if you get the error message you can branch to this customizing from there). For the rest no impact. If no functional area can be derived, nothing will be blocked.

master data affected: all cost centers should best be linked to a functional area, certain GL accounts (the ones that will have different values as from the cost center), production order types and internal order types.

    Hi Juán

We had set this up in combination with PM. In PM we collected the costs and in

Cost of Sales Accounting the sales.

On the end we settle this to CO-PA. It is possible to to settle the costs from PM to Cost of Sales Accounting.

I see Cost of Sales Accounting as an cost-object and the setup is like the other cost objects (planning, settlement) For posting cost and sales you are using (mostly) activity types.

The set-up is not to difficult but the integration cost a lot of time.

    Hi

For implementing cost of sales accounting you need to activate cost of sales accounting and Functional area in SAP. The major difference between cost of sales accounting and cost of production is that the entire cost incurred for production irrespective of sales quantity, it is accounted currently in cost of sales accounting it is not so the cost incurred to the extent of closing stock is removed. There is a lot of setting required in COPA for this.
